چکیده

The symplectic group Sp(4, F ) has a particular interesting unitary representation for F a finite or local field. When F is finite this representation was denoted Θ10 [30], and somehow the name has stuck. We discuss this representation in some detail in the case of R. This material is mostly well known, at least to the experts, and this paper is intended as a reference for non–specialists. It also serves as an introduction to some of the machinery of the Arthur conjectures as discussed in [5]. It has existed since 1990 as an informal set of notes. It is a pleasure to dedicate this paper to Joe Shalika, my freshman number theory professor.

Notes on the Hermitian Dual

1 Basics Let H be a complex torus, with real points H(R), h, h0, θ, h ∗ = HomC(h,C) as usual. View X∗(H) as 1 2πi ker(exp) ⊂ h. Write X → X for complex conjugation with respect to h0, and X → X̃ for the one with respect to X∗(H)⊗ R. Note that θX = θX and θ̃X = θX̃, and also (1) X = −θ̃X = −θX̃ (X ∈ h). This follows from the fact that X∗(H) ⊂ it0⊕a0 where t0 = h θ 0 and a0 = h −θ 0 . Write θ for minu...

Strong real forms and the Kac classification

This paper is expository. It is a mild generalization of the Kac classification of real forms of a simple Lie group to strong real forms. The basic reference for strong real forms in this language is [1]. For the Kac classification we follow [6]. There is also a treatment in [4], in slightly different terms. 1 Real forms and strong real forms Let G be a reductive algebraic group. We will occasi...

Computing twisted KLV polynomials

1 The Setup {s:setup} The starting point is: a group G, a Cartan involution θ, and another involution σ of finite order, commuting with θ. It is natural to consider the coset σK = {σ ◦ int(k) | k ∈ K} ⊂ Aut(G). Every element of this coset commutes with θ. We’re mainly interested when σ is an involution, especially the case σ = θ. Now fix a pinning P = (H,B, {Xα}), and write δ, ǫ ∈ Aut(G) for th...

Supplementary Materials for Learning the Parameters of Determinantal Point Process Kernels

Gradient ascent and stochastic gradient ascent provide attractive approaches in learning parameters, Θ of DPP kernel L(Θ) because of their theoretical guarantees, but require knowledge of the gradient of the log-likelihood L(Θ). In the discrete DPP setting, this gradient can be computed straightforwardly and we provide examples for discrete Gaussian and polynomial kernels here. L(Θ) = T t=1 log...

The 3-primary Arf-Kervaire invariant problem

1 The main point of this talk The main point of this talk The 3-primary Arf-Kervaire invariant problem is still open. We have a program for solving it similar to what we did for p = 2. We are missing a crucial ingredient. Defining the problem The Arf-Kervaire invariant problem for a prime p is to determine the fate of the elements θ j = h 2 j for p = 2 b j−1 for p > 2 ∈ Ext 2,2p j (p−1) A (Z/p,...
